Men’s Baseball

After coming off arguably one of the best seasons in school history last year, finishing 22-20-1 overall and earning themselves a CSAC championship game bid, the Knights look to pick up right where they left off this season. Second year head coach John Fleming hopes “to increase our win totals from last season and better yet to win the CSAC championship”.

A strong core of returning players, four of whom were named to the 2009 CSAC All-Conference Team, anchor the Knights 2010 campaign. Strong pitching depth behind right-hander Ray Schmoltze also helps the Knights attempt to make it to the championship again. Junior George Hatton says in order to make it back to the championship the team has to “put the extra time and effort into the weight room everyday so we don’t break down half way through the year.” The Knights are currently 8-8 overall as of March 30.

 Men’s Lacrosse

The Knights look to bounce back this season after a tough 2009 campaign. Third year head coach Roland D’Ortone hopes to take a strong senior class and turn the team around. Finishing 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the conference, the Knights have nowhere to go but up. The team has two strong seniors that they are relying on to turn things around. Returning stud Matt Toth, who had 26 goals last season, hopes to improve his numbers along with the teams overall performance. Kyle Gardner hopes to help the team by racking up a few more goals and assists as well. Overall, the teams’ senior leadership should have a more productive season this time around. The men’s Lacrosse team is currently 1-6 overall as of March 30.

 Softball

Steph Marrone summed it up best when she said, “We had some key players graduate last year so coming into the season was very exciting and we had to work hard to fill those spots which we have done very well so far! Our team goals are to win and have fun doing it.”

Coming off a second straight championship, the softball team was eyeing an opportunity to continue the streak and win a third straight championship. The loss of ace pitcher Angela Sebasto left a gap in the pitching rotation which the team needed to address. Sophomore Sarah McGann was there to answer the call of head coach Bill Saar. McGann, only a sophomore, has provided the Knights an opportunity to throw star talent pitching at their opponents. With a lineup full of power anchored around powerhouse Jennifer Goslin, the Knights can easily pick up and take charge of the conference again in 2010. The Knights are currently 8-10 overall but 6-0 in the CSAC conference as of March 30.

 Woman’s Lacrosse

Head coach Sarah Kurpel has her team prepped and ready to go for the 2010 season. After a solid 2009 campaign, where the Knights fell in the semi final match, the fourth year head coach has no worries. “We’re going to focus on consistency and hard work,” said Kurpel. Hard work and consistency is what has helped the Knights program to develop and has produced star talent like captains Tiffany Baker and Sarah Poynter.

The versatility and veteran leadership of the Knights six upperclassmen can help them move further into the playoffs this year. The true key for the Knights will be the stellar play of senior Colleen Finnegan and sophomore Alex Bohen. Both of these girls are the heart and soul of the team. Picking their opponents apart last season, they combined for 87 goals and 104 points. Any types of similar performances from these girls will undoubtedly lead to Knights success in the 2010 season. The girls are currently 2-7 overall as of March 30.
